UNCONSTRAINED

"As much as black and white photography is and always will be embedded in my DNA, I suddenly found myself existing inside a moment in time, where I grew tired of the expected. I pick up my camera to create, sometimes to document, but this time it was to heal and the subject’s black and white representation on photographic paper with its methodic postproduction felt stifling, creatively narrowing. The hunger for a change, the need to break free from the self imposed expectations on what art should be won and I went on a personal strike. Letting go of all of my preconceived notions felt freeing. The creative indecisiveness that plagued me for some time was replaced with explosive, prolific, artistic certainty.

Observing my own child’s emerging artistic expression I realized that a child knows no fear. Oblivious to expectations and judgment, its creative vision is boundless. Caked on color of different shades of blue becomes a master piece and is not justified by anything other than that it’s the current favorite hue. That’s what I realized I aspire to be.
Childish. Unapologetic. Creative.

I always found the relation between painting and photography very close, but never before tried exploring the possibility of combining them. In Unconstrained, I fuse photography and the use of a digital brush. This transformation is a complex method that combines photography with computer-generated layering in subsequent stages, blurring the transition between painting and photography. The digital paintings are later brought to life as prints."
